Jarred Hickman started his jazz career as a freshman in high school. His director at the time, Dr. Ishbah Cox, requested him to be the next principal drum set player.
Going into the band as a rookie, he discovered a love for the style and decided to focus on its repertoire. Some of his most notable performances were at Beavercreek and the original "Day One" with Wil Gleckler and Allison Zigler.

While contributing to his academic ensembles, Hickman spends his free time participating in jazz jam sessions, primarily in Columbus. "Music makes a room full of differences a community," says Jarred. Some of his most prominent performance spots include Park Street Tavern and Zavtigs Brewery, where he performs as a drop-in.
Hickman also stated, "I loved the feeling of not knowing where the music would take me. Just going along for the ride and seeing what happens." Known for performing on the spot, he and a few others, most prominently Allison Zigler (pianist), would improvise before concerts to create a unique experience.
While performing throughout Columbus and participating in jam sessions across town, Hickman has worked on studio recordings, creating original works alongside Alex Fomba, Jessica Hodgkiss, Dria Mogaka, Allison Zigler, and Wil Gleckler.
